How I started talking to Animals
My unexpected stumble into the world of Animal Communication
Since I’ve always been open to all things in the field of healing, I’ve dabbled with different energy healing methods for years. It has always fascinated me how this can work on animals too – often even better than for humans – and the fact that animals show improvement with this work helped me make the leap beyond my old belief systems and accept that energy healing is real. Animals don’t make things up. Animals will not stop limping after an energy healing session if they were limping from pain before. They will not suddenly start eating directly after a session if they haven’t felt well enough to eat for days. And they will definitely not suddenly modify their behaviour if they didn’t really connect with an Animal Communicator who talked to them about it. All these things I’ve seen over the years, and recently much more often since I’ve been treating and talking to animals myself.
My little sister, Desi, is one of the most intuitive people I know when it comes to animals. Her little family of 4 horses, 2 dogs and 2 cats has served as one of my main sources of practice before I started offering animal sessions officially, as well as my mom’s 5 cats and 1 dog, my older sister’s 2 dogs and 3 cats, and of course my own 3 cats (what can I say, we’re crazy about animals). My family has always been wonderfully supportive of my weird little sparks of creativity, and because of Desi’s gentle nudges and validation, I started trying Energy Balancing sessions on her animals.
It was with one of her horses, Ankara, that this whole story started. I’d been dabbling before, but in since the beginning of this year I decided to commit more strongly to working with animals. When I do Energy Balancing sessions on humans, part of what helps me know what to work on is a body scan I do at the start to find out where the person’s energy system might be out of balance and where this might be influencing their physical body. As I started a body scan with Ankara, all serious in my effort to ‘do things right’, I saw an image of her, turning around in indignation, saying “you don’t have to do all that, you could just ask me what’s going on and I’ll tell you.” I paused, slightly shocked, and then continued to ask her to tell me what was going on. She gave me a highly detailed run-down of everything that she wanted healing for, complete with imagery of where exactly it was, what was going on, what emotions were part of it, and how it happened. She also sent me multiple ‘looks’ of impatience when I got distracted because I was simply so excited to be talking to her. I spent most of that session just talking to her, and then, about 10 minutes before the end, asked her (very nicely) whether she would allow me to do an actual Energy Balancing session now. She reluctantly agreed, feeling like the discussion was enough, and I did my thing.
Since then, I vowed to always ask animals first about what might be going on for them, before starting to intervene. This very quickly evolved into a Q & A type discussion about what the animal’s human wanted to know, and soon I was officially doing Animal Communication! I read up every book I could find, watched many documentaries and did all my research, only to realize that, yes, this is exactly what’s happening, and I’m doing it already! It was my first paid session with a doggie overseas that really solidified in me the idea (and the excitement) that healing and talking to animals is going to be a huge part of my work.
Working with animals is definitely the most fun part of my day. They tell me stories, show me memories of their favourite activities, and always surprise me with their perspective on things. Their humour is priceless, and I often burst out laughing in the middle of a session because of the look they gave me when I asked a “stupid” question. They teach me so much, and their approach to life is so refreshing and uncomplicated that sometimes I think they are the superior species when it comes to living on this planet.
Yes, I still doubt myself every time before I go into a session, and I still get anxious hoping that I’ll get the correct information and that it will actually be helpful to them and their humans. And most times there are so many little things that prove to me that I really am talking to the animal, that after now having accumulated a good little list of case studies, there is nothing I can do but believe that this is real, and that it is helpful.
I have found that, no matter what information comes out, the sessions help wonderfully to improve the relationship between the animal and their human, and often serve to validate what the human has already been intuitively feeling all along. We have deeply connected relationships with our animals that sometimes go deeper than many of our human relationships, because the love our animals offer us is so unconditional, and because it is often much easier for us to simply be ourselves around them. Yes, your animal can sense everything that is going on for you, and yes, they have very specific ideas about what you should be doing about it, and often your wellbeing is of much greater concern to them than their own.
When it comes to healing, animals often tell me about the emotional background that caused their physical discomfort, and are amazingly resilient when it comes to pain. It is so much more important to them that their family is healthy and connected, and that they have the freedom to play their role in their family (often having to do with protection and companionship), that the healing of their physical bodies seems almost like an afterthought to them. If I am talking to an animal for the first time, and their human requested an Energy Balancing for them as well, I often have to spend some time convincing them that my treatment can help, because all they want to do is chat. They often feel that their physical body will heal in its own time, especially when the understanding and connection in the family is improved by the session, so this becomes their most important goal. Maybe they just love that they can chat about their ideas, and actually get their point across to their human (who they may have been trying to talk to for years and still not getting through).
I’ve seen people get more emotional about connecting to their animals than any physical breakthroughs they might have had about their own healing. Our animal relationships are important, and we often underestimate the value of their presence in our lives. They aren’t simply ‘pets’ that we have to take care of – they are companions who support us in our own healing and growing journeys through life. They teach us about life. And I am learning so much about how deeply they know us and want to help us.
I love working with animals, and hope to expand my work to wild animals too. I feel like there is so much wisdom they have to share with us, and there is so much they can teach us about taking care of the Earth, and returning to our own true nature.
If you are connected to an animal of any kind – home, wild or in-between – book a session and let’s see what they have to say!
